October 1st, 2025 begins my no social madia journey, and already, it feels like a task. The morning started with me turning my alarm off and by habit going to my social media accounts to scroll before I got out of bed. The only problem is that I realized that I deleted them and the reality of this journey set in.
Throughout the day, I caught myself continuously grabbing my phone to check out socials. Like the habit got grain into my system like muscle memory. They say it takes fifteen days to break a habit, and since it was day one, I guess it’s ok. I still have the urge to check on what the world is doing which I still find crazy due to the fact I can care less for the world as a whole, and one of the main reasons I decide to take this short, maybe permanent break from social media. I do have a few plans for this break, too.
So, one of my plans for the social media break and replace those moments that I would be doom scrolling with more reading. Right at this moment I’m reading the Dexter series by Jeff Lindsay, which I’ve been reading for the past few months. My next book series will be The Vampire Diaries by L.J. Smith. I’m going to sprinkle in a few comics and manga in the mix. You know to get lost in between the pages rather than compare my life to others by scrolling the socials.
I also want to take this time away from social media to actually try and be more social in real life. I started to look up different events in my area where I can be among people doing different activities. As simple as this sounds though this for me is going to be a challenge I’m not looking forward to. I’m going to do it, but I already know I may fail. My people skills is low tier as fuck if I’m being honest. I spend most of my time alone whether I’m home or I go out to an event, and most times right after the event I head home not stopping to converse and meet people.
My last plan for this break is to write more, and I believe Journaling this journey will help get the creative juices flowing. I shared my thoughts on social media which makes the transition to my blog a lot easier. I’ve been putting off a series I was writing a few years ago, and it’s about time I start working on it again.
