Keith Hates Keith (At Work Pt. 3)

Keith sat at his desk struggling with the lack of workload plus the added irritation of that voice constantly nagging him. Lisa who was sitting close to Keith can hear him repeat the word “fuck” under his breath. Irritated by the sound of it Lisa turns around in frustration.

Lisa: Ayo! What the fuck is wrong with you?

Keith:( Looking at Lisa) Nothing I’m chilling.

Lisa: Clearly your weird ass is not, because you keep mumbing fuck under your breath.

Keith: Nothing is…

Just then Illusion appeared leaning on the wall at the far end of the office. Keith stops mid conversation and instantly a frown comes upon his face. Lisa, looking confused, looks at the space Keith is staring at, but she doesn’t see anything. She turns back to Keith.

Lisa: What are you staring at?

Keith:…

Lisa:( A little louder) Ayo, what are you staring at?

Keith: (Comes too) Nothing. I’ll be back.

Keith gets up from his desk and makes his way to the single restroom and locks the door. Illusion appears in front of him when he switches on the light.

Keith’s Illusion: Hi buddy

Keith: I thought we agreed we wouldn’t do this at my job?

Keith’s Illusion: I believe you agreed to that. I torment you when and where ever I feel the need to.

Keith: And why do you need to today?

Keith’s Illusion: (Laughs) Stop acting like you don’t know why I’m here. You continue to amaze the fuck out of me. The fact that you have yet to come to terms that we are one is preposterous to me. Well since we are acting let me indulge you. How sad is it that a thirty-one year old man doesn’t care to live unless some female tells him that she cares for him. Do you think you are going to get healthy and she is going to fall in love with you? Or do you think because she said she wants you to live long it means she wants to be with you? (Laughs) You are a sad pathetic excuse of a man.

Keith: I don’t think that at all so you are wrong once again.

Keith’s Illusion: Yeah whatever nigga. You continue to lie to yourself each and every day. Just because you refuse to act on the things you think or feel doesn’t mean I’m wrong. You just lucky people can’t read your mind. Maybe if you opened your mouth more, you’ll have more females wanting to fuck and not just be your friend. (Laughing)

Keith: Feelings and emotions are illogical. I don’t have to act on them. It’s called self control.

Keith’s Illusion: No it’s called not wanting to look like a bad guy. You’ve been a good, nice guy for years. How has that worked out for you? By the looks of it not good at all? How long are you going to keep playing the long game?  Ten years is a long time to wait for someone to give you a chance. Also stop with the “Emotions are illogical” bullshit. You know damn well you don’t believe that.

Keith: I don’t have time for this, I’m on the clock. So leave me alone.

Keith’s Illusion: Naw, I’m cool. I’ll stick around until you decide to end it all.

Keith: I told you that is never happening. You are just a figment of my imagination.

Keith’s Illusion: That you continue to have full blown conversations with.

Keith becomes visibly angry before lunging at Illusion who vanishes. Because of the momentum of the lunge Keith couldn’t stop himself and fell head first into the bathroom mirror causing the mirror to break and slicing his forehead. Keith stands up and notices that blood is pouring down his face. Just then he hears a knock on the door.

Keith: (Grabbing paper towels) I’ll be out in a minute.

Lisa: You alright heard you in there talking to yourself, and the sound of glass breaking. You didn’t punch the mirror or anything?

Keith: (Grinding his teeth) I will be out in a minute.

Lisa: You need therapy.

Keith: And you need to stay out of my business so please I’ll be out in a minute.

Lisa: Whatever weirdo.

Lisa walks off and Keith stares at the gnash on his head in a piece of mirror that was still hanging. The blood slid down his face and drops of blood started to slowly color the white sink he was standing in front of.
